Adjudication With Ms Kara Chan
One of Dance Magazine’s “25 to Watch” (2020), dance artist Kara Chan is known for her "astonishing" musicality and "exuberance." She has danced lead roles in Twyla Tharp Dance and in 2019, assisted Ms. Tharp in the staging of Deuce Coupe and Ghostcatcher (world premiere) on American Ballet Theatre.
She has performed with companies including Pam Tanowitz Dance, Lar Lubovitch Dance Company, Mark Morris Dance Group, Janis Brenner & Dancers, Gleich Dances, Barkin/Selissen Project and has toured internationally, gracing prominent venues such as Park Avenue Armory, The Barbican Center, Guggenheim Museum, The Fischer Center, Lincoln Center, 92nd Y and Brooklyn Academy of Music. A native of Vancouver, Canada, Kara studied with Astrid Sherman at Pro Arté Center before earning her BFA from The Juilliard School. Awarded the Chrystal Dance Prize, Judy Dennis Emerging Artist Award, and BC Arts Council Scholarships and the inaugural Juilliard Career Advancement Grant, Kara is an alumna of Springboard Danse Montreal, The School at Jacob’s Pillow Contemporary Program, and Youth America Grand Prix.
When Kara is not rehearsing or performing, she enjoys teaching and is currently on faculty at Dance Project Washington Heights, Tate Dance Academy, and Edgewater Performing Arts. She has been an invited guest teacher for past summers at Open Doors Dance Festival and FRESH Dance Intensive. Kara is a certified ABT Ballet Teacher for Levels Pre-Primary through Level 5 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum. www.karachandance.com
