Ballet Company Peforms at Nathan Hale Senior VillageIntegral Youth Ballet of Merrick Debut ‘A Gatsby Soireé’ at Nathan Hale Senior Housing Community in Lynbrook before their upcoming performance.
Integral Youth Ballet Company performed ‘A Gatsby Soireé’ for senior citizen residents at Nathan Hale Senior Village in Lynbrook on Sunday, April 10th. The gangsters and flappers took to the stage with the Shim Sham Shimmy, The Charleston and of course classical ballet to entertain the residents and debut the new choreography. The event was enjoyed by the performers and audience alike and served as a final rehearsal before their upcoming charity performance.
The children’s ballet company will be performing the production based on the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel on Sunday, April 18th at the Brookside School in North Merrick as a charity performance to raise funds for the Andrea Rizzo Foundation, which provides dance and creative movement therapy for children with terminal illness and special needs. ‘A Gatsby Soireé’ features all original choreography by Erin Drennan, Director of Integral Ballet School, the performing company of the school, ages 5-18, as well as hired professionals. The musical score is comprised of orchestral pieces from Baz Luhrmann’s 2013 Great Gatsby film adaption, as well as electronic speakeasy mixes and classic Roaring 20’s music by Paul Whiteman, Ben Selvin and more. The production uses literary elements of the classical American novel to showcase the ballet choreography and the popular dances of the period. On April 18th, the school will hold its own Gatsby-themed benefit fundraiser auction and Gala at La Piazza in Merrick. For tickets, please visit integralballet.com/spring-gatsby-gala.
