Ballet Buns
We’ve received a lot of calls & questions regarding hair styling for the recital. Please note that a classical ballet bun is required and stylized up-dos are not permitted. Classical ballet buns should be fitted flat and close to the head. A ballet bun is designed to elongate the shape of the neck & epaulement and is not supposed to stand out as a hair-style.
Bun socks, hot buns, etc. should not be used. We strongly discourage our students from getting the hair professionally styled for a ballet performance. Gorgeous as you may look, up-dos are distracting and unprofessional and should be reserved for weddings, bat mitzvahs and beauty pageants. If you are unable to do it yourself, please let your child’s stylist know that it should be appropriate for a ballet recital, not a prom/wedding/beauty pageant etc.
Dancers may wear their hair how they wish for their individual portraits at dress rehearsal but should be in a neat ballet bun for the group portraits which also take place that day. – Thank you
