It’s not just about overcoming your lack of turn out, flexibility, or relevé. It’s about overcoming the things that challenge our willingness to show up and put the work in. Showing up is 99%.
If you’re not conditioning and getting your work out in every day – ask yourself what you are putting first. What are you putting ahead of your success? Is it comfort, convenience, popularity or something worthwhile?
If your school work got in the way, it was because of poor planning which means you’re putting convenience ahead of your training. If a party got in the way, well that one’s obvious. Excuses are never valid. Motivated dancers never need excuses because they always find a way to get their work out in.
Obviously there are going to be times you can’t make it to ballet. There are going to be times that other things need to be put first. You may eventually make a choice to put something else first entirely. But save it for what’s important and worthwhile. If it doesn’t feeling challenging, then you’re not putting it first (no matter what your excuse).
